Modern Residential Architecture for the Entertainer by A-cero Architects

14 Apr

Here is one of the most inviting modern homes I have seen in a while located in Cadiz, Spain and designed by A-cero Architects. You better wipe off your feet before you enter the SotoGrande that sports one of the most all white interior designs around nicely accented with a few splashes of color for depth and dimension. The designers must have intended for the layout to be used for serious entertaining as the SotoGrande sports an ample roof top lounge, large size swimming pool and pool side bar and lounge area, as well as balconies and patios for quite a few guests. A-cero Architects also develops multi-family dwellings with an equally forward thinking design you can see here.

Orange Fantasy

8 Mar

If it isn’t already abundantly apparent, I have a mild (maybe a little more than mild…) obsession with orange.  One of the most prominent features in my house is an oversized orange vintage leather wingback chair that sits next to a vintage Audrey Hepburn print, in which she proudly sports orange garb.  It is one of the first things that greets visitors upon their arrival into my home, firmly establishing that orange holds a special place in my  heart and in my interiors.

{Orange lovin’ in my own home}

Well needless to say that when I dined at the chic Fulton Market restaurant Otom the other night, my heart was aflutter with the orange themed interior.  Simple yet beautifully modern, Otom serves up delicious dishes that are as fresh as the orange and white interiors.  My eggplant and tomato gnocchi followed by mahi mahi with beluga lentils was heavenly, as were the orange and chrome chair I was sitting in.

Hungry for Some Indoor Tennis? Meet the Racket Chair

 Hungry for Some Indoor Tennis? Meet the Racket Chair

If you’re a tennis maniac or just a humble fan, this chair is for you. Designed by Vestergaard Jensen and manufactured by Søren Horn, it’s shape reminds one of a tennis racket. And not only the form of this chair can make a person hungry for sports, but also a few particular elements, such as the cushion shaped like a ball attached to the back of the chair or the fish line material. Teak and leather were also used in transforming the design into reality. You should probably know this is a limited edition product, there is only one available  and the price can be given at request here. The item is 113 centimeters high and has a width of 74 centimeters,which makes it pretty “visible” around the room. Do you think any other changes should be made to such a design in order to better resemble a tennis racket? We think they did a pretty good job.

The Silo Competition proposal by NL Architects

30 Apr

Amsterdam City Council recently held ‘The Silo Competition’ which involved the adaptive and reuse design for two former sewage treatment silos in the city’s Zeeburg district.

For the competition NL Architects proposed silos dedicated to climbing, sports and culture. In their design the existing structures were extended to the maximum height to benefit from the views.

The cultural silo consists of two theaters with dressing rooms and rehearsal spaces, spaces for workshops, exhibition spaces, music studios and a space for hair design. A bridge connects the silos at the height of the original roof level and office spaces will be positioned on top. The top level will be dedicated to a restaurant with 360 views and a roof terrace.

Seen at designboom. More images after the break.
