Green Covered Taipei Music Center by Mario Bellini Architects

Green Covered Taipei Music Center by Mario Bellini Architects, taiper pop music center, mario bellini architects, green design, eco design, sustainable design, green architecture

We’re totally intrigued by this pop music center for Taipei and its striking resemblance to a rolling green hill. Conceived by Italian firm Mario Bellini Architects, the design is “a single body wrapped in a plastic ‘mantle plant’,” according to our friends at Designboom. While we aren’t sure how sustainable this plastic ‘mantle plant’ is, or even what it is for that matter, we were taken with the creative landscaping and creation of an exciting outdoor public area for the people of the Taipei. The proposed structure would also have glass passageways, letting visitors look out onto the city. If anyone has any more information about the eco-features of this center, we’d love to hear them – so share your thoughts in the comments below.

Pink Handcrafted Drawers With Embedded Mother of Pearls

19 Feb

Handcrafted in India, this Pink Pearl Inlay Chest of Drawers took many weeks to build and implied the work of a team of people to build. It is an interesting piece of furniture if you are interested in handmade designs or if you are planning on integrating it into a simple environment with few other flashy colors around. It goes well with black and white or other shades of pink, preferably ones that mellow. The pattern is complex and features leaves and flowers. It has a total of four drawers, which is more than enough storage space for an item of this kind. Mother of pearl pieces were embedded individually into the wooden frame and each drawer can be pulled by a bone. The costs? – £1695.00, available here. So? Do you love it or hate it?

Cuckoo Clocks: Unusual Art from Stefan Strumbel

Cuckoo Clocks: Unusual Art from Stefan Strumbel

Stefan Strumbel is an artist from Germany, whose creations are well known national-wide. He combines a strong details in his works, coming up with items that make a statements. Most of the elements used are German images with great meaning for the citizens. His style was also connected to pop art, a current which challenges tradition and emphasizes mass production. Here is a better interpretation of Stefan’s work from Wicked Halo:  “Although his work includes cultural artifacts such as cuckoo clocks or the traditional costume of the Black Forest, he isolates and recontextualises using everyday objects such as tree-shaped air fresheners and shopping carts and giving pieces of his work titles such as “What the fuck is Heimat”? Heimat is a quintessentially German concept, which roughly means homeland. “There is no English word for Heimat,” Strumbel explains. “Some people link Heimat to a place, for others it is a feeling.”- via Psfk.com

Radiator Humidifiers for Comfortable Rooms During the Winter

Radiator Humidifiers for Comfortable Rooms During the Winter

You probably noticed that turning on the radiators makes the air harder to breathe in a room. If you haven’t, just think of those times you woke up feeling you have a sore and dry neck. This is due- we will leave out all the secondary causes- to the fact that there is not enough humidity in the air. Most people resolve this the old fashion way, by placing a water recipient on the radiator. But there is a more fashionable way to handle this and we will try to show you an alternative in today’s post. This is basically what this elements in the pictures below do: they humidify the air and make it more “breathable”.  How do they work? Well, it is quite simple- they all feature a small container that can be filled with water that will slowly evaporate. Not only will this make the air more healthy, but they will also have a nice and aesthetic effect on the room. -via Apartment Therapy

People in Glass Houses Should Not Throw Stones

12 Jan

The saying, “people in glass houses should not throw stones” took on new meaning today as I bore witness to the first glass house that I have ever seen. Though completely impractical in terms of insulation and withstanding the elements, it does make for interesting conversation. The designers of the home are Carlo Santambrogio and Ennio Arosio, or Santambrogiomilano. The inspiration behind this project is how a clear pane of glass leads to an “unbroken vision”. One thing is for certain, there is not much privacy if you plan on getting dressed or bathing. Via.
