What’s Old Is New

2 Sep

One of my recently completed projects is currently featured on the cover of this month’s “Renovation Style” magazine! So exciting!

The Historic Victorian home is located on a gorgeous tree lined street on Chicago’s North Shore- very close to the beaches of Lake Michigan. The Southern raised, incredible to work with home owners were accustomed to more traditional furnishings and decor, so the challenge was how best to  honor the tradition’s of both the home itself and the client’s taste- all the while infusing it with a more colorful and whimsical aura.  After much love, enthusiasm and dedication to detail from the owners, this project is one of my most treasured accomplishment’s!  Look and see below images of an historic home with a”happy” spin- well suited for a modern family.

All images courtesy of Buckingham ID and photographed by the uber talented Eric Hausman except for the cover shot by  master photographer Werner Straube for Renovation Style and Meredith Publications.

Modern Houseboat Will Make You Fall in Love with Water

1 Sep

Living in a houseboat is not for everyone but when you have modern houseboat while the one in the images below, you’re going to realize there’s only one thing to do. That’s fall in love with water and embrace your new-found life aboard this modern houseboat. The outer design doesn’t do justice to what you will find inside, and once you step through its doors you’ll forget you left the main land. The dominant color is white and it definitely is a great choice for both the large bedroom found at the lower level, and for the kitchen and living room found on the upper level. The modern but simple furniture and overall design lines are definitely going to make you fall in love with this houseboat and I see no reason for making this one a permanent home. Via Design Blog

Cheeky Boxes Modular Storage Unit Can Change Face Every Day

31 Aug

The cloud-like shelves we’ve shown you yesterday looked great but they aren’t a perfect storage solution for all the things you might want to store at any given time. That’s why today we have a more practical design for you and like always, modular designs seem to be the best fit for such storage problems. The Cheeky Boxes in the images here can be neatly arranged in any room and they can take almost any shape you wish. Bored with a particular display? All you have to do is move around those Cheeky Boxes and change the overall setup. Then rinse and repeat every time a change of face is needed; after all we have modular shelves here! Just make sure you keep those boxes in perfect equilibrium as you’d certainly hate to see them fall allover the place! Via Process

Modern Approach to Classic Comfort : Doda Chair

25 Aug

Doda Chair was designed by Ferruccio Laviani for Molteni & C and is a modern interpretation of the classic French bergère. You are looking at a very inviting armchair that can be easily recognized due to its unique shape. Straight lines are combined with interesting curves to create a “sliding” design, one that is able to offer its user a visual satisfaction as well. The Doda Chair comes with a base that can be either fixed or movable, it all depends on the needs of the customer. The color palette is diverse and so is the upholstering material. As you can see in the images below, there is a leather finish available as well. A complementary cushion can also be ordered. “Easy Puff” can transform this chair into a more comfortable lounger.- via 3rings

I am though a tech guy and therefore couldn’t pass the opportunity to show you the Living Wall, an interactive wallpaper that will make your otherwise boring wall a lot more interesting. As you can see from the images below, the Living Wall offers you light, color, and then more color. And everything changes once you touch it, every time! In fact you can even play your favorite tunes by touching the Living Wall and even send a SMS message to your special someone with a simple swipe. Twisted Speakers Can Make Beautiful, Twisted Sound

19 Aug

Are you shopping for a new speaker system for your living room or home office? How a bout a Twisted Speakers set then? The tiny speakers in the images above will help you better enjoy your favorite songs and movies by letting you control and change their position at any given time. There are no wires to worry about and the speakers can be placed virtually anywhere, as long as they remained within Bluetooth range from your computer. Having no wires means the Twisted Speakers charge with help of an induction station. But why are they called Twisted Speakers? Well after you have placed them in the desired position you’ll have to twist them to turn them on and off and change the volume level. Anyone intrigued yet by all these futuresque features? Shelf Life Faucet Brings a Water Spring in Your Bathroom

17 Aug

We have covered plenty of faucet alternatives for your modern bathroom, some very high-tech and some very simple but we have more interesting designs to show you. The Shelf Life faucet in the images below has a unique form that makes it resemble an actual water spring emerging from a rock. The giant rock, in this case, is the bathroom, or better said a shelf of your bathroom, but the Shelf Life is definitely a faucet solution very pleasant to the eye. No wonder it won the Bathroom Innovation Award 2010 in the professional category! The Shelf Life project is just a concept for now but it could soon be available in a store near you. Indian Inspired Batik Cabinet On Crate & Barrel

15 Aug

Batik a tile dyeing technique which is usually associated with Asian countries like India, Sri Lanka,Indonesia is making its way in the A&D continuum rather beautifully. Take a look at the Batik Cabinet which is a Crate and Barrel exclusive and can be purchased for $699.00. The archetypal cabinet gets a makeover thanks to the myriad of reclaimed print blocks that feature different artisanal patchwork of traditional batik images with rich color variations and antiqued finishes. The cabinet is no doubt a dynamic rendition of eastern influences and western design practices.

Wovin and Wave Wall Come With Lovable Multiple Personalities

14 Aug

In case you’re thinking your house needs a redesign but you aren’t exactly sure what you’re looking for, I have a couple of basic suggestions, the Wovin and the Wave Walls. As you can see in the images below, each of these two walls are decorated with some simple yet very interesting wall systems that can be easily removed and rearranged whenever you get bored. The Wovin Wall is made of alternating tiles that will create a 3D pattern easy to spot from anywhere inside the house. The Wovin Wall is available in wood veneer, anodized aluminum and polyresin and various colors. The Wave Wall in the second picture is available in a continuous or alternating pattern and it’s available in the same materials and colors as the Wovin Wall. Would you decorate one of your walls in such a way? Via 3Form
