Here is minimalist but extremely elegant apartment design from HofmanDujardin Architects, a studio with an impressive portfolio from the Netherlands. According to the designers, the apartment has been fully renovated and features a kitchen integrated in the living room, an inviting bedroom and a terrace.  You are looking at a modern crib with light colors and natural materials which create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Painted entirely in white, the 120 square meter apartment inspires freshness and gives away the illusion of more living space. Order and harmony seem to reign over this beautiful loft and it is hard to imagine something could be in a different place. Thanks to James Cameron’s Avatar, everyone is jumping on the 3D bandwagon and honestly speaking the results have been less than stellar. However the Edge Media Space doesn’t suffer from the same predicament as it seeks to enthrall the consumer with killer 3D graphical performance right in their living rooms. Designers Rudolf Stefanich, David Pflugl and Erol Kursani use their tech prowess to come up with a true third-dimensional cinematic experience and we can’t wait for it to get out from the concept stage.

When you are a student, accommodation is not the first of your worries. But with time comes a job and the need for a little more space than the college dorm room offers. We consider this small apartment perfect for having friends over which is what led us to believe it was especially designed for students. This one bedroom crib measures just 50 square meters, but it very well organized. The large room includes a sofa and a bed which makes it a living-room and a bedroom as well. The colorful paintings cheer up the whole space and add a little youthfulness. The apartment also houses a large kitchen, a renovated bathroom with tub  and a spacious hall with space for working area. Large windows ensure a good illumination throughout the day. Do you think the designers did a good job optimizing this small student’s crib?

Inspired by the idea that small changes of individual objects can be a big impact on the whole, Korean designers Seo Jeonghwa and Hanna Chung have collaborated the ‘ripple effect’ tea table that features a water layer on the top to make ripples when the users move cups on it. This table is a graduation project for IM masters design academy eindhoven.

There is a belief by Asian people that small changes in an individual’s life can have an impact and have a certain effect to the whole community, which in a psychological term is called a “ripple effect”. The designers then translated this intangible term into their design by creating this tea table. Its basically looks like a common tea table but with the addition of a water layer on top. Tea plates are afloat on this water layer while drinking tea. Ripples from the top water layer then forms every time the tea drinkers interact with their tea cups or their tea plates. – Via – DB

Have you ever seen so much vitality in an apartment before? Usually, when we are dealing with so many colors, we have to overcome the huge risk of visually jamming up a room. However, in this situation it seems that everything is in its right place and the atmosphere that this apartment inspires is that of extreme energy and jauntiness. Especially designed for a young working couple, this house is meant to be a fusion of passions and interests. As their styles were very different and both wanted some of their own furniture to be integrated in within the new home, things were pretty challenging for the designers. All throughout the crib, you will notice interesting decorating elements such as classic wood furniture (his influence ) and unusual masks and shoes ornaments (for her). “Editions in Craft” is a project undertaken by curators Reneé Padt and Ikko Yokoyama to showcase upcoming designers and traditional craftspeople and give them a prolific platform. The Coiled Collection is group exhibit from the women from KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa and hence the collection is made entirely from local materials and traditional techniques. The series includes vases and lights and each creation blends cultures and influences flawlessly.

Claesson Koivisto Rune‘s Haven sofa comes with a very interesting approach. Its semi-transparent nature gives this couch a unique feel while at the same time improving the whole aspect of its design micro climate. We really like this sofa’s ethereal feel and we think its overall lightness is an innovation and also the strongest feature of this item. The designers say that the texture of the material lets air flow freely, which is why this product is perfect for the outdoors. Four cozy pillows accompany the stylish sofa in order to create a more inviting seating space. A certain asymmetry was one of the objectives that the creators tried to achieve in order to make the design less formal and encourage users to drop conventions, take their shoes off and rest comfortably while enjoying the breeze.- via blueantstudio

The Syncline Residence was designed by Arch11 and is located near Boulder, Colorado. Its architecture is diverse and developed in consonance with the building site’s many constraints and the land use limitations. The architects had to deal with height restrictions, solar access restraints and with an uneven terrain. The large windows create a harmonious connection to the landscape. Here is some relevant information concerning this aspect from the designers: “As the entry opens to the living spaces the apertures transform in scale to reveal the expansive landscape in its entirety.  At the southwest corner thirty feet of glass retracts into the walls, dissolving the boundary between the domestic and the wild;  the living spaces are then bounded only by the uplifted cliffs beyond. Reciprocally, the native meadow to the west folds onto the garage roof providing easy outdoor access for visiting guests in the house’s guest suite.” Syncline Residence was built for a couple of professional rock climbers who wanted “a place where town life can be left behind.” Think this will do?-via Contemporist

The first Lightart Biennale Austria 2010 will act a fantastic platform for artists and designers who are captivated with the interplay of light and shadow. The Biennale 2010 has the slogan of “private light in public spaces” and will be held on September 2nd in Linz (OÖ) , on September 4th 2010 in Perchtoldsdorf (NÖ), and there will also be a final exhibition in Vienna in November 2010. I was always fascinated by chrome finished modern bathroom fixtures and how pure, ellegant
and timeless they look. But after seeing the Faraway bath collection created by Zucchetti Kos, it was pure seduction for me… Ludovica+Roberto Palomba designers have brought the greatest renovation in the iconography of contemporary bathrooms. They had the vision:
“The bathroom as a place for sensory experience, a real or virtual journey to self-discovery”.
