Unique and eye-catching, Bright Woods’ collection of illuminated chairs and coffee tables are sure to capture your attention with their engaging glow. We discovered this charming collection of furniture at Milan Design Week, and we’re enamored with the unique aesthetic that’s equal parts alien nation and woodland tranquility. These radiant pieces, made from wood and natural resin strips, were designed by Giancarlo Zema for the Avanzini Group and are currently on display at the Design in Nature exhibition in the Triennale Design Museum as part of the Milan Furniture Fair.

Some of the greatest minds in green business recently convened in sunny southern California for Fortune’s Annual Brainstorm Green Conference. Inhabitat was on the scene to catch compelling talks by an incredible list of speakers including movers and shakers in the top Fortune companies as well as some predominant start-ups, nonprofit, and NGOs. The conference glossed over some of the usual sustainable fanfare, but surprisingly managed to dig a little deeper into today’s environmental issues and share some realistic insights. Inhabitat favorite Yves Béhar has just unveiled a stunning set of pendant lamps made from recycled paper that manage to capture the shimmering effect of crystal chandeliers. His gemstone-shaped Amplify lanterns utilize a tiny crystal to diffract light from an led bulb, creating a beautiful effect.

If humans can have off-grid, prefabricated structures, who says livestock shouldn’t get the same eco-treatment. A recent competition held by the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development asked for an upgrade to inefficient and polluting family-run chicken coops in Galilee and the winning design was this sleek, prefabricated, renewable energy powered chicken coop by Peleg/Burshtein Architects and landscape architect Nathan Gulman. Their winning design incorporates all the necessary functions of a chicken coop into one building, provides its own renewable energy and processes its own waste in a closed loop system.

PULP 2.0 by Studio Jo Meesters, currently on exhibit at the Milan Furniture Fair, is a collection of post consumer vessels and furniture made from paper waste and discarded vessel moulds.  Studio Jo Meesters take cues from historic periods and creates one-of-a-kind images that market their unique pieces.  Although made of paper, these fascinating products have water resistant properties – cool!
