This exotic looking residence comes from SPG Architects and is located in Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica. Just a few steps away from the sea, this home also features a breathtaking infinity pool, a good reason for the inhabitants to relax and enjoy the views. The architects didn’t build this structure form scratch, but decided to salvage an existing steel framework that was situated on the Costa Rican coastal hillside. The results?- you are looking at them: a fabulous home with amazing interiors, contemporary furniture and a beautiful, modern interior design. Large terraces are present at each floor, complemented by stylish outdoor furniture. If you remember, we presented a strange device on Freshome a while back. It was a wooden electrical ruler and we featured it because we considered it was something new that would interest architects out there reading our site. Today we would like to show you something similar. “Constrained Ball” was created by Korean designer Giha Woo and helps its user draw straight lines and measure their length at the same time, by displaying it on a tiny screen. The device is small, practical and has a great, appealing design. However, for those architects who crave for traditional measuring methods, this multifunctional pencil will probably be looked at with a doubtful eye, as this design means that the old ruler is no longer a necessity.

Here is minimalist but extremely elegant apartment design from HofmanDujardin Architects, a studio with an impressive portfolio from the Netherlands. According to the designers, the apartment has been fully renovated and features a kitchen integrated in the living room, an inviting bedroom and a terrace.  You are looking at a modern crib with light colors and natural materials which create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Painted entirely in white, the 120 square meter apartment inspires freshness and gives away the illusion of more living space. Order and harmony seem to reign over this beautiful loft and it is hard to imagine something could be in a different place. We just received some photos from UNStudio showcasing this uncommon holiday home from Upstate New York. VilLA NM is a compact building, especially designed for weekend and vacation getaways with family and friends. The architects described it as a “futuristic hut” that has unobstructed panoramic views over the surrounding landscape and large floor to ceiling windows that establish a great connection with the exterior. Here is more information: “The kitchen and dining area on the ground floor are connected by a ramp to the living space above, the 1.5-meter (5 feet) height change allowing for a sweeping outlook over the surrounding woodland and meadows. A similar ramp connects the living area to the master and the children’s bedrooms on the second floor.

Facilities such as the bathroom, kitchen and fireplace are clustered in the vertical axis of the house, leaving the outer walls free. Large glazed windows feature in all but the most private rooms.Technically, the volumetric transition is generated by a set of five parallel walls that rotate along a horizontal axis from vertical to horizontal. The walls become floor and vice versa. The ruled surface maintaining this transition is repeated five times in the building. Standardizing and pre-fabricating of this structural element lowered the building costs without reducing the spatial quality of the interior.”

Los Angeles based design and manufacturing company Arktura are not scared to experiment with a diverse palette of ideas and this design philosophy is reiterated in their works. Their series of coffee tables make traditional utilitarian design rules redundant and each creation of their is part Quixotical, part whimsical and a whole lot sustainable. The company is made up of internationally trained architects who not only ups the ante with their unique sensibilities but also ensure that the manufacturing process is eco-friendly.

This unusual looking residence comes from Paulíny Hovorka Architekti and is situated in the small village of Kynceľová, close to the town  of Banská Bystrica, Slovakia. The house has a beautiful natural surrounding landscape and overlooks the Tatra mountains. You probably wonder how come this home has such a strange shape. At first this is what got our attention also and we checked into it. We found out that the client wanted a single storey construction and a maximum amount of natural daylight. But due to the unfriendly circumstances (“the unusual shape and eastward sloping of the site”), the architects came up with a unique plan: an “L”-shaped building with a large and impressive residential floor sustained by a smaller ground level. The first floor hosts all the living spaces- split into day and night, while the ground level houses the garage and the ancillary rooms. We particularly like the way the upper level is cantilevered towards the street and we believe this is one of the strong features of this home’s architecture.

There is nothing remotely geeky about the house designed for an IT entrepreneur by the architects over at Najjar & Najjar. Designed for a self-confessed Mac and Lamborghini fan, this futuristic house is a surrealistic medley of tech, design and luxury. Some of the highlights of the home is the cutting-edge LED lighting and sound systems, the aquarium with computer generated graphics and the expensive plasma television sets.

We don’t know if you ever imagined how an IT Entrepreneur’s Home would look like, which is why we decided to give you a glimpse of a futuristic project, to say the least. Villa F is located in Vienna, Austria and was designed by the architects over at Najjar & Najjar. A real fan of Mac computer designs and Lamborginis, the owner wanted a place where he could live and work and that would reflect his passions. Moreover, he made sure his crib housed the latest trends in home technologies. Plasma TVs jumping out of seemingly common furniture, a large aquarium with computer generated graphics, LED lighting and sound systems turned on and off with the help of a mouse click- everything in this futuristic place is digitally maneuvered. We are really curious to find out what you think about this house, because from where we are standing, it doesn’t look to homey. It would also be fun to know if you think this place is suited for the personality of someone working in IT.

Built as a getaway for a family working in Tokyo, this incredible project inspired by a cube comes from Yuusuke Karasawa Architects and offers amazing vistas of Kanousan, Japan. The homogeneous feel given by the fact that this house is painted entirely in white is disrupted by the infinitude views that it offers. As soon as one changes his or her observing point, the perspective changes also. Each angle of sight is different, spectacular and totally unexpected. This is definitely a home that will never get its inhabitants tired of exploring. We particularly like the svelte interior staircase which manages to highlight the overall strange but fascinating geometry of this place. What do you think? For those of us traveling to the mountains, accommodation consists in humble but inviting cottages, usually with a rustic feel. This mountain home however took us by surprise with its modern architecture, pool and sauna. The Bowen Mountain house comes from CplusC Architecture and is located in New South Wales, Australia. Meant as a weekend-escape, this home combines the comfort of contemporary living with that of being a part of nature. Here is more information on the construction from the architects: “New and recycled Australian hardwoods were used to frame the steel structure. Soft-toned grey steel used for the dramatically angled roof blends with the muted tones of the surrounding bush. Glass was used extensively throughout the home, with dramatic effect. The structure seems to almost hover over the site and indoor and outdoor spaces merge seamlessly.” Does this not seem like the ultimate weekend refuge?
