Levitating Furniture: Floating Sofa by Philippe Nigro

Philippe Nigro designed an interesting furniture piece for a Milano based company called Comforty. Found on Mocoloco, this unusual cushioned  floating sofa was suspended by a steel tube exo-skeleton frame for an intriguing visual effect. Resembling a giant spider web, the frame system is both modern looking and appealing, but not so practical in a contemporary home, due to the enormous space it occupies. We are not aware if the sofa also acts like a swing, implying one can rest in it like in a giant hammock. Simple and elegant, the black sofa inevitably becomes the focal point of the original installation and seems to insidiously invite users to rest on it. All in all, the concept is quite interesting and definitely worth sharing. Perhaps it could even become practical, if applied to smaller objects such as chairs or small swings.
